Risk Taking Month

02 Dec

“It’s not because things are difficult that we dare not venture. It’s because we dare not venture that they are difficult.”     - Seneca, Roman philosopher

In an effort to provide a tangible and measurable platform for developing learning skills and executive functions, Middle School teachers have implemented themed months throughout the school year.  Each month will focus on a particular aspect of studentship. Throughout the course of the month students will be evaluated on each of their deliverables and on their day to day work based both on the quality of their work and on demonstration of the particular learning skill.

This month is focussed on Risk Taking and students are encouraged to and will be rewarded for taking academic risks.  This feedback rich environment has initially shown strong results and we expect to observe derivative results in growing self-efficacy by months end. Risk taking is building a significant gravitas in teaching and academic circles as one of the few effective ways of addressing how children feel about themselves as students and learners. If you would like to read more on the topic, please feel free to explore “What if the Secret to Success Is Failure?“.

Risk taking month will run until December 31, 2011.
